Life has become a little more difficult for protesters camped in Centennial Square with the shutoff of power and water. City hall, citing concerns about frozen pipes, shut off an outdoor tap the Occupy Victoria protesters have been using. They now have to carry water from the square’s public washrooms, which are open 24 hours a day. The Capital Regional District cut power to an outdoor outlet to coincide with the water shutoff on Wednesday night.

One of the first things Victoria councillors will have to decide in the new year is whether or not to close the 41-year-old Crystal Pool. The Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre – which loses about $1.2-million a year – has served the city well but is at the end of its life, says a facilities assessment report to be discussed by councillors this week.
